Portrait Series: Siblings

Throw out the term DNA during a dinner party and the conversation will likely turn to genetic profiling, cloning, or criminal investigations. But when you look at our physical characteristics, it is fascinating to consider how subtly, or not so subtly, our genes shape us.

In early May 2008, I decided to photograph sets of siblings to visually investigate the similarities and differences in two people with similar genetic makeups. The following are a few images from that project.

While everyone knows that DNA is impossible to see with the naked eye, take a look at the following faces — you just may see DNA hiding in the shapes of eyes, the delicate lines of lips, and the geometry of faces.
